The meaning of colours

Pantone colour of the year: Living Coral Colours in the home make or break the atmosphere, they can create calmness or energy and even creativity. Colours in the kitchen can even make you hungry! Much like plants used in garden design, groups of colours used together create the whole theme in your home and give meaning and life to your surroundings. From hot reds to pastel pinks, the meanings of different colours are described below:

The meaning of hot colours

Reds and oranges are considered ‘hot’ colours and they can provoke emotion and energy, even passion. A room with red walls or red soft furnishings can be a powerful message to everyone in the home meaning strength and courage. The feeling can change with subtle lighting though. Gently lit red rooms can be very elegant yet bold. Orange is another hot colour and its brightness brings a lot of fun to a room. Its full of happiness and can even help to get the conversation going.

Cool colours in home trends

Using a light blue to decorate a home provides a lovely, soft calming feel and is even said to lower blood pressure. It’s relaxing nature means its great in bathrooms and bedrooms, as it can even aid restful sleep. Green, however, is the most peaceful of all colours to use in the home. A colour of rest and tranquillity with a touch of nature. It’s an inviting colour and gives a sense of peacefulness.

The meaning of neutral colours in the home

The sign of simple, inviting, cosiness with a touch of confidence. Neutral colour schemes mean they are eternally flexible in how they are used and accessorised. White, cream, grey and black tend to be used in neutral schemes and do a great job of providing a calm environment. Individually and together they make for a relaxing space that can be changed to suit depending on the season. Neutral schemes can be splashed with hot colours or cool colours depending on the theme and style you would like to create and all match any furniture. They mean a whole lot of relaxation.
